Brian Berkman has been in the communications industry for two decades as journalist, public relations practitioner and publicist.
He holds a AAA Diploma in Advertising, Damlain Certificate in Public Relations, Peninsula Technikon’s journalism qualification and Bill Stafford’s Diploma in Professional Cookery.
Brian has worked with some of the world’s best known brands like BP, Men’s Health and Hard Rock Café. He has handled publicity for clients as diverse as Pieter-Dirk Uys, Three Cities Hotel Group, Berry Bush BBDO and Auction Alliance.
From 2000 to 2002 he was Client Service Director of PS Public Relations, the only South African PR company in the worldwide BBDO network. At PSPR BBDO he was responsible for clients Parmalat, Sea Harvest, Herbology, Berry Bush BBDO, Cadbury Ice cream, Distell and ad hoc projects.
In January 2003 Brian restarted Brian Berkman Publicity. He was also publicist for 2004 and 2005 Cape Gourmet Festival which included The Good Food and Wine Show.
He is the founder of PR-Net, a peer network for the communications industry, past chair of the Green and Sea Point, Fresnaye, Bantry Bay Ratepayers Association and current chair of PRIAC - The Cape Town University of Technology's PR industry advisory body.
Brian writes a weekly food and travel column for The Next 48 Hours, Berkman's Blog for The Cape Times newspaper and contributes to GQ South Africa. He compiled Fodor's South Africa's Cape Town restaurant guide.
